In light of our Neighborhood Renewal program, we are connecting with organizations with the residents that need it. Erie City Mom's is one of those organizations!

Once a month, Erie City Moms gathers women from all walks of life for opportunities for sisterhood and to get real about the struggles of parenting. This completely free “Moms Night Out” at Wayne Park Baptist Church, 923 East 6th Street, features a sit-down meal, guest speaker or special event, prayer, and literacy-centered child care lead by master-level reading specialists. The other 353 days of the year, we "do life" together in the community as friends, accountability partners, and prayer partners.Hi, Moms. I was just thinking about Monday's meeting where we talked about what makes a good friend and being the kind of friend to others that we want to have. We listened to Jesus' words in John 15:12-13, "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." And considered what that might look like in our relationships with our sisters. My question is: How is that playing out in real life? Are you loving people sacrificially more today than you were last week? Have you made yourself vulnerable and connected with someone whose number or Facebook contact you got last week? I have honestly had more failures than successes, so this is me holding us both accountable for being a good friend. God created us to be in relationship with one another--not to live in isolation. While this pic is AWFUL (we need a photographer, clearly lol) it is an incredible reminder of the beauty among us. Please reach out to someone right now. Maybe one old friend and one new one from Monday night for the sake of your health and their's. If I've learned anything while leading this group, it is that we, as moms, are lonely. Let's be a great source of strength to one another. We will talk more about friendship at our February 4 meeting-- I look forward to hearing about your successes and failures then! xo

ServErie's NEIGHBORHOOD RENEWAL 2019: We are excited to intensify our focus on an area that has long been underserved in our county in Center City: East 6th to East 12th and Holland Street to Wayne Street. It is one of the areas last spoken for in our city, but one that is rich in diversity, culture, and history. For this neighborhood, we are available 365 of the year and always welcome volunteers to mow, shovel snow, assist with code compliance issues, and more. In 2019 we have scheduled:

1. Monthly Community Meetings - They are the third Monday of every month for one hour from 6 pm to 7 pm. They are potluck style meetings and open to everyone - it's a safe place and an open forum for discussion on residential issues. Our schedule is posted! Our first meeting is January 21 to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.

2. Neighborhood Resource Center - with Center City being our focal area, we are looking to be right in the center! We will move our offices, conference room, tools right in the center city to serve the residents by connecting them with our major partners. It's our mission to connect people in need of resources, and we seek to address the proximity problem by opening our space for use.

3. We have exciting news! We've received grants that will allow us to focus on curbside appeal along 6th street for residents! If you would like to volunteer or be a part of the planning, please let us know by emailing ashley@serverie.com.

4. We are building two new parks this year! We rely heavily on the needs of the surrounding residents and seek their input for what they would like to see or use in the park. Last year, we worked on our first ever 'adopt-a-lot' and build a serene rest place, and we will continue maintenance into this year. We ALSO will complete a new green space! Stay tuned! Volunteers, again, are always welcome!
