Who We Are / Our Stories

Our Stories

Volunteers make ServErie happen. Here are some of their stories.

Clint Messenger

Clint volunteers because as a Christian, he is called to care for others. (1 Peter 4:10-11) Clint believes that this means more than just his family and those he surrounds himself with. We are called to Family, Church, Neighbors/Community, World. When Clint accepted this call he was amazed at how much he was personally challenged and spiritually rewarded. It is hard to get out of your comfort zone and even more difficult to continue to do so, but when you do he guarantees that you will see the Lord’s work.

Kathy Rollins

Kathy has only lived in Erie for a little less than a year but has been volunteering since November. She was inspired to start volunteering when her friend Loretta told her how remarkable it was and has been volunteering ever since! She is willing to help in any way possible, no matter how big or small. Kathy has always had a passion for children and teaching, which is why she enjoys helping others so much. Volunteering has helped Kathy in many ways to engage in relationships with new people. Serving others is something Kathy has really enjoyed and is so grateful for the experience!

Kathy Love

“ServErie has been a great organization. They came and did some work on the house. I’ve met some fantastic people and I can see this group cares about this side of town. You can see the warmth and love that they show and the fact that God is leading them means so much to me.”

Amanda & Josh Fiske

“I’ve always had a servant’s heart and always loved helping others. I was in a season of life where I was looking for a way to purposefully use my time and energy and ServErie seemed like a perfect fit! (Especially after a wonderful conversation with Jill [Mintsiveris]!). It’s been wonderful working on the adopt-a-lot alongside my husband, Josh, and just seeing how God is working and moving is Josh’s heart. We include our children whenever possible so they not only hear that Mom and Dad are helping others, but they can see it first-hand and even get their little hands dirty while helping. Little hearts want to serve, too and I want to cultivate that nature in them from a small age so that, hopefully, it thrives in their hearts through adulthood.”

Pete & Kate

Pete and Katie Gray epitomize what it means to serve others. Not only do they voluntarily manage ServErie’s tool bank and purchase supplies for the School Initiative and ServErie Saturday, but they also have four children and are the first to give rather than receive. We cannot thank them enough for the work they do for the Kingdom.

Josh & Rosa

In November 2016 Josh was tasked with recruiting Site Leaders for a list minute Climate Changers project with ServErie. He was given a short list of reliable leads, including the name Rosa Gerber. He called to ask if she would be interested in volunteering for the project… Josh knew he was in love… On February 9, 2018, Josh asked Rosa to marry him over delivery pizza with his 7-year old daughter Madelyn dancing and singing, “say yes!” in the background. To which Rosa answered, “Are you serious? Of course.”

Marc Lawson

Marc volunteers for ServErie and is the paradigm example of what it is to have a servant’s heart. He’s an invaluable asset who is willing to take on whatever task comes his way – from landscaping to neighborhood clean-ups to database development to removing staples – he’s dependable and we can always count on him.

Paula Kikola

Every effort, great and small were counted for it to come together as beautifully as it did; especially the assistance and support of the ServErie team.

Now the ServErie Saturday lead for East county, Paula started it all with just one project at Edison:
